Tips for Purchasing Door Knobs
The door handles on your interior and exterior doors are items that you use every day. You might overlook them but if they break or don’t work correctly, you’ll soon be reminded about how important they are. This means that it’s very important to take care when selecting your new or replacement door handles. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you are shopping for door knobs:
- Check the sizing to make sure that you are getting the right sized door knob for your door. You can do this by measuring both the thickness of the door and the diameter of the hole that the door knob will go in. The thickness will help you determine how long the spindle and screw posts should be.
- If it is possible to test the door knob before you purchase it, make sure to do this. You should be able to if you buy the knob at a home improvement store. You can also go to a home improvement store and test the knobs before making a purchase online, where you can often find better prices.
- After you install a door knob, make sure that it is smooth and doesn’t have any sharp or pointed edges. You won’t be able to simply sand these off. You’ll also want to make sure that there are no visible dents in the door knobs.
- A good door knob should have a non-slip surface that allows it to be easy to grasp. You should return the knob or not purchase it if you aren’t able to easily grab it.
